How to Make Resin Quartz Crystals
This fun craft makes it possible to make as many gorgeous crystals as desired…enough to fill a treasure box! They appear identical to real quartz crystals and reflect the light in the same manner. Learn how to make resin crystals using EasyMold and EasyCast resin. Let’s get started!
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
Small plastic container that fits the crystals
1 or more actual crystals (could be formed out of clay or wood)
Hot Glue/Gun
Stirring Sticks
Mixing Cups
Disposable gloves and worksurface
MOLD MAKING:
Begin by making the mold of the crystals. Find a plastic container that fits the actual crystals you have. Crystals could also be formed out of some oven-bake clay or carved out of wood too.
Spray the inside of the container with the Mold Release Spray gently. Next, place some hot glue on one facet of the crystal.
Press the hot glue onto the bottom of the plastic container, securing the crystals in place.
Now it’s time to mix up the EasyMold Silicone Rubber. Read and follow the directions carefully.
Mix one part of each tub and mix thoroughly. Spray the inside of the container with Mold Conditioner and Release Spray, this will help when trying to remove the mold.
Once mixed according to the directions, pour the silicone rubber in the plastic container, completely covering the crystals. Let the container sit for about 24-48 hours.
After the silicone rubber is set, remove the mold from the plastic container. It can be a bit tricky…but keep working at it with a stirring stick, loosening up each edge.
RESIN MAKING:
Trim the top of the silicone rubber mold with a small pair of scissors. Then mix up the EasyCast Resin. A good way to know how much to mix up is to fill the mold with water and then empty the water into a measured cup…then mix up that amount.
Mix the EasyCast resin in the 2 phase process according to the directions. Mix one part resin with one part hardener for 2 full minutes with a stirring stick. Then pour into a second cup and stir with a second stick for 1 full minute.
Pour the resin into the crystal mold. Let the resin cure for 24 hours. Then remove the resin crystals from the silicone mold. They are so easy to pop out because the mold is silicone and flexible. Repeat as many times as desired!
These resin crystals are stunning! No need to worry about bubbles, those add character and realism to each crystal. They reflect sunlight like a prism. Now you know how to make resin crystals–what will you do with them?
