Faux Leather and Lace Kindle Case!

Faux Leather and Lace Kindle Case! I found this Gold vinyl in the remnants at the fabric store... I decided to make a case for my daughter's Kindle. I laid the kindle on the vinyl folded it over and cut it with a generous allowance. I sewed with my leather non stick presser foot and just straight stitched the edges. And a leather machine needle I added velcro for closure! Easy. I didn't have to hem any edges because vinyl doesn't fray. But I decided to add some lace! Just a strip sewn right to the edge for decoration. Perfect! Love the shimmery gold! This post published on Doodlecraft first

The Pandorica Opens! Exploding Tardis Painted Purse!

The Pandorica Opens! Exploding Tardis Painted Purse!  Here's the blah boring before:  And the after, in all it's exploding glory!  First...here's some backstory. We did a homeschool class for art. We studied about Vincent Van Gogh.  We studied about his life and tragic death. Then we looked at all his famous paintings. Next we watched "Vincent and Amy" and "The Pandorica Opens" And then the painting began. Here's the reference from "The Pandorica Opens" My kids painted these! It was fun for them to try to paint with daubs instead of long smooth strokes. And I was jealous I didn't get to paint one...  So it was my turn. When I found this old black purse, I knew it was the perfect canvas! I used chalk to sketch on my lines...they rub off later...  I also used fabric ink paint. It dries soft.  Mixing cyan and a dot of magenta makes the perfect Tardis Blue!  Ready, set, go!  I painted the blue, t...

Rockabilly Purse! #tbt

Rockabilly Purse!  I had a purse in mind that I wanted to remodel... but just needed the motivation to do it! So, here's that purse in all it's faded, stained glory! Okay, when I bought it for $1, I secretly knew all I wanted was the hardware...  So I took it all apart and use the faded yellow hearts as a pattern... And cut out the houndstooth fabric...following the pattern.  Decided I wanted a fat zipper a couple inches from the top... Start by sewing in the zipper. If you have a zipper foot for your machine, that is the easiest way to sew in a zipper. Just pin the zipper in place so you are sure it's going in the right way, the sew the edges.  I knew the lining and accents HAD to be RED! Needs a pop of color, right?  Cut a piece the same as the zipper side and sewed it together right sides out.  For the other side, the lining was made with pouchy pockets... perfect for "Girl treats", cell phone, gum and 2 s...
