How to Make Sublimation Shirts: Fallout Merch!
Learn how to make your own sublimation shirts using a sublimation printer and polyester blanks.
Design your own merch, make shirts with your favorite images or photographs, perfect for handmade gifts or just for fun!
Hey friends, I'm Natalie, and I confess: I play a lot of video games!
Okay, I've confessed. I love Fallout. I've played hundreds of hours worth of Fallout 4 and I'm nearly at 2,000 hours of Fallout 76 in the past year.
Don't judge, I know how much Netflix you're watching.
Pick some images you love off the internet and size them to about 8X10 inches to fit on a single piece of paper.
Here's Bottle and Cappy from Fallout Shelter. I love these cute little icons!
Supplies Needed for Sublimation Shirts/Totes/Merch:
Step 1: Set up Sublimation Printer!
Here's a full tutorial on setting up your sublimation printer.
A sublimation printer uses special ink and special paper to infuse into the blank in a seamless chemical vaporization process. It's amazing!
Step 2: Reverse and Print!
Now reverse the images that you want to use and print them on the sublimation printer.
The prints look very dull and the opposite of vivid.
Step 3: Sublimation Blanks
Now get your sublimation blanks ready to transfer. This technique is for fabric; shirts, totes, pillowcases, etc.
This Raglan shirt is from Cricut
Now set the blank on the Cricut EasyPress Mat. Heat it up with the Cricut EasyPress 2 to start.
Then clean the fabric off with a lint roller to remove any unfortunate debris.
Step 4: EasyPress!
Next, place the printed image face down on the sublimation blank. You can use heat resistant tape to hold it in place if you want, I didn't.
Then press with the Cricut EasyPress 2 12x10 for 30 seconds on 400* heat.
Simple!
Remove the EasyPress and remove the sublimation paper to reveal the vivid, bright transferred image!
I love the canvas totes from Cricut, they are the perfect size!
Repeat the same process for all the shirts, totes or fabric items you are sublimating!
It's a super cool way to take something you are excited about...but cannot find any merchandise for sale...and make your own!
I just did a quick google search for vault boy. Then mirrored the image on my phone and connected through wifi to my Epson Sublimation Printer.
I also made the Bottle and Cappy icon shirt with the Cricut Raglan style shirt.
I bought this one at JoAnn for less than $10. Any polyester shirt or fabric will take the sublimation beautifully.
Of course I had to make the Nuka Girl logo shirt. This is the sexy icon that promotes Nuka Cola in the Fallout universe.
You find her on billboards and ads around the open world games...some games let you win her outfit as a quest reward.
Then the bottle caps become the post-apocalyptic currency.
I've done a few other Fallout themed fun things because I am such a geek!
I dressed up like a raider from the wasteland for Halloween last year and threw a big Fallout themed party as soon as I completed all the quest line for Fallout 4 in 2021.
My husband started playing Fallout 4 about 7 years ago. He loved it and could spend hours at a time playing it.
Some nights he wouldn't sleep because he was busy building his wasteland shelters and taking over settlements.
My boys loved playing it too. When Fallout 76 came out, they all got it so they could join each other's world and play together.
I did not see the appeal at first. It was too scary.
In January of 2021, my husband installed a few mods for me (to make it a little less scary and easier) and I gave it a try. Oops, I was hooked!
He also gave me a mod that allowed me 5 companions at once, so that was pretty fun to have Porter Gage, Piper Wright, Cait, Paladin Danse and Dogmeat with me all the time!
My hubby hates the companions and always sends them back to settlements. I love traveling in a gang.
Then I got Fallout 76 and made my boys and hubby play with me for a long time. As of right now, I'm the only one that jumps on daily to do my challenges...but they may get back into it again.
We go through video game phases...you too?
Now I am bringing my love of video game geekery to life using my sublimation printer!
Hey, do you play Fallout 76?
