Birthday Story Time:

When I was turning 34 I planned a huge birthday party with all my friends. I had it all planned out that my husband would go to work, and I would celebrate, clean up and destroy all evidence before he got home. I was making Cafe Rio knock off sweet pork and it was a meal my husband does not like.

Well, at the last minute, my husband had the day off work! Which never happened. Like, never. I was caught, I had to tell him that I had a huge birthday party planned with a menu that includes food he doesn't like.

He was an awesome sport and spent his day off with a huge group of ladies for my birthday lunch. He was sweet and romantic and played a few songs on the guitar for the group, including "I want to grow old with you" from The Wedding Singer.

All my friends loved it.

Have you ever had a birthday party go not quite to plan? Tell me about it!

And, enter the JoAnn gift card giveaway! What will you buy with $50 at JoAnn?

My favorite birthday gift ever was tickets to Secret Garden at Hale Theater last year. I've wanted to see that play since I was like 10 and I finally got to! It was amazing!

I think my favorite birthday gift is probably a personalized blanket my daughter gave me a couple of years ago.

My favorite birthday gift was a trip to Disneyland. My Mom and I were able to go during our birthday month and it was fun to take pictures with the characters and go on the rides.

That is so sweet that your husband just joined in. Sounds like something my husband would do too! I can’t recall a birthday party that I planned and it didn’t go quite right, I always just choose to spend time with my family and friends, eat some yummy food, and spend the day at the lake (my birthdays in august so lake days are my favorite!)

My little sister always tried to make my birthday special growing up. She didn't have any money (we were kids) but she would find a way. I remember one year she printed out coloring pages for me. Another time she made me breakfast. She would do silly things too. On my 17th birthday, she found me at the top of each hour and wished me happy birthday and she insisted it had to be done for 17 hours in a row. She made me feel so special.

I am going to age myself but my favorite birthday gift ever was the truck and the Walton's dolls. I can see them so clearly in my memory. I wish I still had them to sell, lol.
