BIG BLOOM EVENT

Inspired by the Big Bloom Event in the Skyline Valley and the mysterious Black-Eyed Susan, I created this fun DIY faux flower crown that captures the essence of this new seasonal event.

It’s creepy, beautiful, and totally wasteland chic — perfect for cosplay, Halloween, or just showing your Fallout fandom in a flower-printed sundress and boots combo.

  • Purple silk or faux flowers – Use large, full blooms for the front and smaller ones for the back or sides.
  • Ping pong ball eyeballs – Dollar store find! You can draw or paint pupils if yours are plain white.
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks – Essential for securing flowers and eyeballs.

Step 1: Build the Base of the Crown

Start with your twisted paper wrapped wire — this is the key to creating a sturdy but flexible crown that fits comfortably.

Wrap the wire around your head two or three times to get the right size and shape.

You want it snug but not tight.

Once you have the right fit, twist the ends of the wire through sections of the circle, reinforcing the shape.

Think of this as “rooting” your flower crown structure — it’ll hold up much better when you start adding weight with flowers and eyes.

Use floral tape to cover the twisted sections and keep everything neat.

The tape not only looks more polished but also provides extra grip for when you attach the flowers later.

Step 2: Prepare the Eyeball Flowers

The Seesprout’s signature look is all about those unsettling eyeball flowers.

To make your own, grab three of your biggest purple or blue faux flowers — ones that look like they belong in a post-apocalyptic greenhouse.

Remove the center of each bloom carefully so you can hot glue the ping pong ball eyeballs right in the middle.

If the flowers are floppy or the petals move around, add a bit of floral tape behind the bloom to hold the shape while you glue.

If you don't have access to these little eyeballs at the dollar store, you can DIY your own eyes with ping pong balls and acrylic paint pens.

Once the glue has cooled, adjust the petals so they frame the eyeball perfectly.

You can even dab on a little bit of paint or marker around the edges to make the eyes look more organic or “grown in” like a true hybrid flower.

These eerie blossoms are the highlight of your Big Bloom inspired crown.

Step 3: Assemble the Crown Structure

Use your hot glue gun to attach the flowers to the wire base.

Start with the large eyeball flowers, spacing them evenly across the front. Once they’re in place, fill in around them with smaller faux flowers, leaves, or hybrid blooms to give the crown fullness and dimension.

Work in small sections, holding each piece for a few seconds while the glue cools.

Add extra floral tape in areas that feel loose or where stems poke out awkwardly.

This helps everything stay secure, especially if you plan to wear your crown to an event or convention.

Repeat adding flowers all around the wire crown.

I only had 3 of the large flowers so I put them on the front of the crown and smaller flowers around the back of the crown.

I did end up wrapping my flowers in place with a wire, but floral tape would work well too.

Step 4: Add Finishing Touches

Flip your crown over and check the back — this is a great spot for adding smaller flowers, sprigs of greenery, or even bits of moss for that “wasteland-grown” look.

Once you’re happy with the shape, try it on! Adjust any spots that feel uneven. The beauty of faux flowers is that you can bend and reshape them to get the perfect balance.

If you want an extra level of realism, lightly mist the flowers with matte spray paint or dust them with brown chalk to make them look aged — like they’ve survived radiation and time in the Appalachia wilderness.

Step 5: Style Your Fallout Look

The best part of any Fallout-inspired craft is styling it for your final project. The Seesprout Flower Crown pairs perfectly with a flower-printed sundress, a flower suit, or any of the new outfits from the Big Bloom event.

If you’re going for cosplay, wear it with your Vault Suit or a wasteland wanderer outfit for a fun mix of post-apocalyptic and floral fantasy. You can even use the crown as decor — hang it near your gaming setup or as part of your Fallout-themed collection.

The Big Bloom represents the intersection of nature and mutation — and that’s exactly what this iron-on-worthy faux flower crown captures. It’s both beautiful and bizarre, a perfect symbol of Fallout’s charm.
