How to Engrave Stainless Steel Envelope Necklace

These little envelope necklaces are the perfect way to carry a heartfelt message close to your heart.

Using the xTool S1 with the 2W IR laser head, you can easily engrave “I love you” (or any custom phrase) onto the shiny stainless steel surface, creating a personalized keepsake that’s as beautiful as it is thoughtful.

LASER ENGRAVING WITH XTOOL:

Laser engraving is easy to do with the xTool S1 machine.

I have both the 20W diode (blue laser) and the 2W infrared laser modules, the IR laser is what you will want to use for deep engraving on stainless steel.

I have not used sterling silver or other metal choices for surface engraving but xTool has plenty of stainless steel blanks in gold, silver and rose gold colors.

Their blanks are absolutely stunning--and I've never had a mess-up with them yet!

xTool S1 machine with 2W IR Laser Head attachment (now 1064 nm infrared laser)
Stainless steel envelope letter necklace blanks
Computer with xTool Creative Space software installed
Heat-resistant tape (optional, to hold pieces in place)
Ruler (for sizing the engraving)

Step 1: Prepare Your Design

Open xTool Creative Space and create the design you want to engrave—this could be initials, “I love you,” any custom message or a small symbol, I am using I love you's written out by hand.

Resize the design to fit the small stainless steel "letter" inside of the envelope pendant.

Measure carefully so the text sits centered and doesn’t extend past the metal’s edge.

Step 2: Set Up the Machine

Place the necklace blank on the bed of the machine. Use tape if needed to secure it so it won’t shift during engraving.

I've got mine just sitting on a piece of cardboard on top of the honeycomb panel. (if you are doing thicker projects, remove the riser base)

Select the material you are engraving in xTool Creative Space, if you have xTool blanks, there's usually a specific icon for it in the selected materials.

Set it to stainless steel, I am just using the machine default setting for the surface.

For stainless steel with the 2W infrared laser:
Power: 90%
Speed: 220
Passes: 1
Air Assist: ON if available, to reduce residue

Always run a framing pass in the software so you can see where the design will engrave before committing.

Step 4: Engrave Your Necklace

Click “Start” in xTool Creative Space to begin engraving.

Stay nearby and monitor the engraving process to make sure there aren't any issues during processing.

Once engraving is finished, carefully remove the engrave letter necklace and check the detail.

Step 5: Finish and Assemble

Wipe down the engraved pendant with a soft cloth to remove any residue.

Slide the little personalized letter back into the envelope necklace.
