Supplies Needed for Laser Cut Calligraphy Sign:  xTool M1 Laser Cutting Machine 3mm Basswood xTool Creative Space Dollar Tree Wooden Hanging Sign E6000 Glue

Step 1: Design your Image


Begin by writing out your desired word.


I used my iPad and procreate app.


If you are doing it on paper; digitize it by taking a photo or scanning it.


Then remove the background (I use Photoshop).


Save the image as a PNG file.

Step 2: Import PNG File


Then import your PNG file into XCS. 


Select the image and then click the 'Offset Distance' tab to 0.


This will outline the image you created exactly.

Step 3: Select CUT


Then select the image and click the 'cut' button on the sidebar. 


This will turn the outline to purple.

Step 4: Text


Now click the 'text' button. 


You can change your text in the word box and change the font by selecting the drop down menu under 'typeface' on the sidebar.


**NOTE**
This additional text is not useful for this post, but I added it so I could use the negative space of the wood cut out and make 2 projects, not just one.

Step 5: Process and Cut


Then click the process button. 


Then click the button on the machine and it will begin the cutting process.


The estimated time said 3 minutes, but this project took 12 minutes.

Then carefully remove the wood cut out, use a hobby knife if it didn't quite cut through in places.


Then use E6000 glue to adhere the hand lettering to the wood hanging sign.


I love how it turned out!


I don't like decorating with generic decor that everyone else can buy. I love making things that are unique to me, using my art, calligraphy or photography.


This is so fun to see my own writing carved in wood--this would make a great gift too!
