Step 1: xTool Set Up!


Begin by opening the XCS software and import the sunflower bookmark svg file from Design Bundles.


Then arrange the image on the basswood snapshot set on triangular prisms.


Then make sure the inside image is set to engrave and the outline and hole is set to cut.

Step 2: Cut and Engrave the Bookmark


Click the process button and then click the button on the xTool machine.


I love watching the laser cut and engraving process. 


It's important to stay near the machine while it works, just in case.

Step 3: Embroidery Floss Tassel


Once the basswood is cut out, remove it from the machine and make the perfect tassel.


I used 3 shades of yellow thread to match the sunflower vibe.

Use a 2.5 or 3" piece of cardboard to wrap the 3 strands of embroidery floss around.


Wrap the strings around the cardboard about 10-12 times.

Then clip the end of the embroidery floss.

Now slide the embroidery floss off of the cardboard and use another piece of floss to tie a square knot around the embroidery floss tassel.

Wrap a little tape around another 3 strands of embroidery floss and thread them through the center of the tassel.


**NOTE** This step would be easier at the beginning, by laying it across the top of the cardboard and then wrapping the embroidery floss around it to begin with.

Pull the strings through the center of the tassel and tie it off in a knot at the end of the strings, creating a loop.

Then cut the fringe edge of the tassel.


Cut all the embroidery floss loops apart.

Comb out the tassel to separate each little embroidery thread to make it extra fringy and tassely.


Then loop it through the bookmark hole and back through the tassel, tying a larks head or girth hitch through the hole.
