How to DIY Fallout Raider Costume Cosplay or Halloween
Fallout video game fans will instantly recognize the Charmer Outfit—a bold, punk-inspired look that screams confidence and Wasteland attitude.
With a little thrifting, some creativity, and DIY touches, you can pull this costume together without breaking the bank.
Here’s how I recreated the look using secondhand finds and a few Fallout-inspired details.
Let's get started!
“This is Overseer’s Log, Wasteland fashion entry number 76. Out here in the Commonwealth, survival isn’t just about Stimpaks and RadAway—it’s about style.
The Charmer outfit isn’t just clothing; it’s armor for your confidence, a way to turn heads while dodging bullets.
With a leather jacket, a few thrifted finds, and an Atom Cats patch, you too can strut through the Wasteland like you own the place.
Let’s break it down, survivor—here’s how to DIY your very own Fallout 76 Charmer look.”

I opted not for the red paint or smudges on the jacket and the boots, but I did pick a red tank to wear under my jacket.
You can get as accurate as you want with a Fallout costume, pretty much anything goes with a pip-boy!
Supplies Needed for DIY Fallout 76 Charmer Outfit Costume
- Thrifted black leather jacket
- Atom Cats patch (or other Fallout-inspired patch/paint)
- Black leather belt
- Black leather mini skirt
- Black leggings
- Fishnet stockings
- Black combat boots
- Hair gel or spray for styling
- Safety pins, needle & thread, or fabric glue (optional, for patch application)
- Pip Boy
- Mole Miner Pail
- Nuka Cola Pin
Step 1: The Jacket
The centerpiece of the Charmer outfit is the leather jacket.
I found mine at a thrift store, and it already had that rugged, lived-in look—perfect for the Wasteland aesthetic.
To Fallout-ify it, I added an Atom Cats patch to the back, giving it that signature "retro Power Armor Fallout 4 gang" vibe.
You can sew the patch on, use fabric glue, or even pin it in place if you want it removable.
The more worn and weathered the jacket, the better!
Step 2: The Bottom Half
Pair the jacket with a leather mini skirt for that edgy Charmer silhouette.
Add a wide black leather belt around your waist to break up the textures and give it some structure.
For layering, wear leggings underneath for comfort and durability, then pull fishnet stockings over the leggings.
This detail adds grit and attitude while still being practical—plus, it nails the post-apocalyptic layering style.
Step 3: The Hair
For the perfect raider cosplay to be complete, go bold with your hair.
I styled mine into a faux hawk, using a fake french braid technique pulling each section back into a ponytail and then fluffing out the hair in loops.
This punky hairstyle ties the whole look together and makes the outfit instantly recognizable as Fallout-inspired.
I wore this costume on two separate occasions, thus the differing slightly of pictures (and my weight, lol).
First time was Halloween night, I even wore this outfit to church because Halloween was on a Sunday that year.
I also wore this outfit to FanX comic convention the next September and it was perfect for all day at the convention.
Step 4: The Boots
No Fallout outfit is complete without footwear that looks like it could survive the Wasteland.
Thrifted combat boots are perfect—they add toughness, match the rest of the leather elements, and are comfortable enough for a full day of cosplay or Halloween fun.
Here I am at FanX (I went with my daughter) stocking up on pip boys, backpack flair and all the fun collectables!
It's so fun to go to Comic Conventions! I saw some dressed up in a Tusken Raider Costume, a Lord of the Rings Ring Wraith, and lots of Doctor Who cosplayers!
Comic conventions know that people are going to dress up to the hilt--furries and armor and lots of layers, so they keep the building nice and cold...so a costume with a jacket or outer robe is pretty nice!
I had a couple people tell me they loved my Fallout costume, it's pretty niche...but it would be much more recognizable now that Fallout on Prime series has happened.

With your jacket, skirt, boots, and fierce faux hawk, your DIY Fallout 76 Charmer outfit is ready to go!
It’s a costume that balances thrifted fashion, DIY detail, and post-apocalyptic style—perfect for conventions, cosplay photos, or a standout Halloween look.
