Step 1: Photo of Cat

The first thing needed for this project is a great picture of the desired cat.

I find that cats don't hold still for pictures very well.

My best advice is to make a video and try to get the cat to sit and look at the camera at least for a split second.

Then you can take a screenshot of the video and edit out the background of the cat.

I use a free app called PhotoRoom and the AI does a good job removing the background.

Select the transparent background or the faint checkerboard, it will make the sticker making process much easier.

The free version adds their watermark, but I removed that with photoshop.

Step 2: Upload Cat Pictures to CDS

Here's a full tutorial on uploading images to Cricut Design Space for the Print and Cut feature.

You will need to upload each individual cat image so the Cricut can cut around each cat perfectly.

Step 3: Print Stickers

Arrange the cat images on Cricut Design Space.

I sized them about 1-2 inches or so.

I'm doing a lot of cats in boxes...so it's a little more complicated because there are so many.

Once it's arranged as a sticker sheet, send it to the printer as a print and cut, with the material set to sticker paper.

Step 4: Stick to Paper

After printing the full sticker page, remove the backing and stick the sticker sheet to a piece of kraft cardstock, smoothing as you go so there are no bubbles or wrinkles.

Now that the Cricut is cutting cardstock with the sticker paper, set the material to that on Cricut Design Space.

Then click cut.

The Cricut will scan the registration marks and then cut out each little kitty cat.

They may need some dusting off on the edges after cutting.

Step 6: Make Boxes

Measure the width of one cat cutout.

Be generous and add a quarter inch to that number.

Then add 2 inches to that number.

Cut the kraft paper to that width.

Repeat the measuring process for the height, adding 2 inches to the number.

Use the score board and score one inch in on every side of the paper cut out.

This should leave the perfect inside rectangle for the cat that was measured.

Use scissors to cut out the corner pieces that are one by one inch square.

Finally, cut a piece of cardstock that is 1/2 inch by 1 inch and fold it in half.

Hot glue one section of it to the back of a cat and then hot glue the other part onto the bottom of the box.

Give it a couple dry runs to see how it will fit best.

Then glue it in place.

Using a craft stick is helpful for reaching in the box behind the cat and pressing the hot glue onto the box.

Then repeat the same measuring, scoring, folding, gluing and sticking process for all the kitties on your Christmas list!

If you have a walking picture, you can make a sideways box to have the little cat peek out of.

If the cats have uneven sitting and don't quite fit in the box right, you can glue them on top of a box or off to the side.

At this point you can punch a hole in the top and hang some bakers twine for the perfect little ornament for the Christmas tree.

Or you can just wrap it up for the cat lover on your list this year.
