DIY Solar Power Vintage Arrow Light Up Marquee!

This was a super fun project to do with my  11 year old scout in just a few hours!  Do-it-yourself Marquee sign! Nothing quite as awesome as a vintage style arrow in comic book red!  I wanted to do a marquee sign for a long time... but didn't want a sign I had to plug in...find wall space for... or deal with cords and plugs. Then I discovered Solar Power lights!  Yay! So that was my only cost in this project, about $20. You could use Christmas lights...or other string lights.  We started with a scrap piece of plywood we found on the street. It was about a foot and a half tall and 4 feet wide...  I used some kraft paper and cut it to fit the board... I folded it in half and then sketched out my pattern. I cut it while it was folded so it would be symmetrical!  like this!  Then traced the arrow pattern onto the board.  like so!  Then my son used the dremel and we began cutting it out... ...

Be An Angel Day!

"that which holds the image of an  angel becomes itself an angel" Apparently it's Be An Angel Day... My first thought when I read this wasn't about a charitable act of  service or being kind to others...it was DON'T BLINK!!! I've been finding angels at the thrift store and yard sales... trying to stock pile for Christmas... yes a Doctor Who themed tree is in the works! Check out this piece of work...it's frightful! (the cashier loved it...I didn't have the heart to tell her what it would become)  I spray painted it all gray...   Then I spritzed a little silver metallic over it to give it some highlights.  Once it's good and dry I'll use wires to keep those menacing hands up over its eyes. Stay tuned for the whole Christmas theme! Here's some other little cherub treasures!  Spray painting them silver...  They are adorably haunting and menacing... Now, go be an angel! And in other news, this happened...

Slip Knot Nautical Anchor Bracelet!

Slip Knot Anchor Bracelet!  Anchors (or anything nautical) are so trendy right now...and there is no  better place I've found to get them than Wholeport! 5 anchors for $3 (less if you buy in bulk!) These are thick, sturdy metal.  I used satin cord...but Wholeport has lots of cord too. Some leather or suede cord would be cool...anyway. You will need 20 inches. These slip knots will make your bracelet adjustable. Begin by threading the cord through the anchor loop.  Loop it around and hook it on the anchor hooks...like this:  Now, you'll be making slip knots using the loose cord wrapped around the looped cord...here:  And here:  Begin by looping the loose cord around the looped cord... Wrap it around 3 times.  Like this:  Take the loose cord and pull it all the way over the loops you just made... and then through the center of them...then pull all the cords tight.  Give it a try...or t...
