Materials Needed for Cinnamon Stick Macrame Ornaments:

Cinnamon Sticks: 1 cinnamon stick per macrame ornament (this acts as your “dowel”)
Macrame Cord: Pieces of macrame cord or cotton cord in any color variety (about 5-6 pieces, cut around 24 inches each)
Small faux sprigs of greenery and holly berries
Hot glue gun
Painters or Artist Tape
Ruler
A short piece of cord or a piece of twine for hanging
Scissors
Rat Tail Brush

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Tape Down Cinnamon

Begin by wrapping some painters or artist tape around the end of the cinnamon stick and taping it down on your work surface so it doesn't shift around while tying knots.

Step 2: Attach Cord With Lark’s Head Knot

Cut your 6 pieces of macrame cord to 24 inches and fold them in half.

Attach each folded piece to the cinnamon stick with a lark’s head knot.

Fold the cord and form a loop.

Place the loop under the cinnamon stick from the top.

Bring the loose ends down through the loop.

Pull tight.

Repeat across the cinnamon stick until it’s filled with 6 tied on cords.

This is the same knot you’d use for wall hangings, macrame snowflake projects and other fiber arts.

After completing the macrame, untwist the strands of the cord and then brush it out with a rat tail brush.
Trim the fringe to the length you like.

It's easiest to trim with a ruler or straight edge and a rotary cutter...but scissors work too!

Heat up your hot glue gun and carefully glue small sprigs of greenery to the top of the cinnamon stick.

Then hot glue on a little cluster of holly berries, I picked these up from the dollar store.

This part gives the ornament a cozy, earthy look—perfect for rustic trees or Scandinavian-inspired homes.

For a finishing touch, slide on a wooden bead above the knots, or tie on a bow for extra texture.

I love how they turned out and know if I practiced more, I would get the hang of it.
