Christmas Sugar Cookies Recipe with Decorating!

I love making sugar cookies once a year...at Christmastime!  This was a recipe that my mom taught me and it makes great cookies that don't spread all over the pan.  They make the best cookies for decorating with yummy cream cheese frosting and sprinkles!

Here's the recipe...and it makes a lot of cookies!

1 cup Butter
2 cups Sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup Sour Cream
6 1/2 cups of Flour
2 teaspoons of Baking Soda
1 teaspoon Salt
2 teaspoons Cream of Tartar
~
Cream butter and sugar.  Then add the eggs and vanilla.
Then mix in sour cream.  Finally add the flour, and other dry ingredients.
Split batch into 4 parts and wrap in cling wrap and place in the fridge.  Roll out and cut one section at a time.
Roll out about 1/4 inch thick and then cut with shaped cookie cutters.
Place on baking sheet and bake at 425* for 5 minutes--don't over bake!
This makes tons of cookies!  Great for gifting to neighbors...or freeze a bunch of baked cookies to decorate later--like on Christmas eve!
For the Cream Cheese Frosting:
Mix 1 package of cream cheese
2 lbs of powdered sugar
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon of vanilla
Mix until smooth...add colors and spoon into piping bags.
Then bust out all the sprinkles!
Clip the tiniest piece off the tip of the piping bags and squeeze.  Now write, cover and decorate all the cookies!  Piping bags make it easy to write fancy calligraphy.
Cutest cookies ever!  Great for leaving out for Santa on Christmas eve.
Get creative!  I love how my kids decorated these cookies...that bow tie candy cane is perfection!
