I recently made these little cork dangle ornaments, and they are such a great idea for using upcycled materials you probably already have on hand.

With just a drilled hole, some twine, and a few festive accents—like jingle bells, pom poms, or red beads—you can create a cute ornament perfect for gifting or decorating your Christmas tree.

This DIY is quick, inexpensive, and super customizable.

It also pairs perfectly with other cork crafts like a wine cork wreath, tiny cork characters, or a mini Christmas wreath made from cork slices.

Let’s dive in!

Prep Your Cork

Choose your favorite wine corks or a slightly wider champagne cork.

If you want a more polished look, give them a quick coat of spray paint in a metallic shade.

This is totally optional, but it adds such pretty depth when the lights hit them on the tree.

Drill a Clean Hole

Use a small drill bit to make a straight hole through the center of the cork.

If you don’t have a drill, you can twist an awl or skewer through with a bit of pressure.

This gives you a pathway to thread your twine through.

Thread Your Twine

Cut a length of twine and double it up.

Thread it onto a thick needle and push it right through the cork.

Pull it through so the ends line up together on the bottom and a loop forms on the top.

Add Your Jingle Bell

Tie a small jingle bell to the two loose ends at the bottom of the cork.

This gives your ornament just the right hint of movement and sparkle...and a little jingle!

Decorate the Cork (Optional but Fun!)

Here’s where you can get creative! A few options:

  • Glue on tiny pom poms for a playful look
  • Thread red beads onto the twine before knotting
  • Twist a pipe cleaner into a mini halo or bow and attach it with hot glue
  • Add greenery or ribbon scraps for extra texture
  • A wire cutter works perfectly for trimming pipe cleaners or faux greenery stems.

Hang on Your Christmas Tree

Your simple, charming ornament is ready!

The loop at the top makes it easy to hang right onto your Christmas tree branches.

These look lovely sprinkled around the tree or tied onto gift packages.
