When Fallout 76 released the season 11 update a while back, I was the most excited about all the new foods and recipe plans.

The Caramel Mutfruit is such an iconic and fun one.

What is Mutfruit?

Mutfruit is a mutated fruit found in the Fallout series, known for its versatility and nutritional value in the post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Despite its mutated appearance, it serves as a valuable source of sustenance for wasteland survivors, appearing as small, round fruits with a purple or blue hue.

Mutfruit is a food that can be planted in your own camp as a sustainable food source!

Here's the video game series caramel mut fruit.

It's clearly a red fruit with a random stick stuck in it...it's got a nice layer of drippy caramel and some red or pink sprinkles.

Pretty simple!

Here's Betty Hill, my bestie at Nuka World on Tour.

She sells much of the new foods, has the Caramel Mutfruit and Yao Guai Pastries on display...and a little hot dog stand to the left of her trailer.

She sells some unique Nuka themed clothing too!

I just had to set up my little Caramel Mutfruit stand and mimic these sweet treats made by Betty...I'm sure she's the ghoul in charge of making them too!

You can find the Caramel Mutfruit plan from completing the Tunnel of Love quest, 9% drop rate...same as the other recipe plans too.

Do the Tunnel of Love any and every time it randomizes...those plans are super rare and sell great!

It takes a long time to make and requires patience, but it a delicious outcome!

Ingredients and Supplies Needed for Caramel Mutfruit:

  • 2 Cups Dark Brown Sugar
  • 1 3/4 Cups Heavy Whipping Cream
  • 1 Cup Light Corn Syrup
  • 1/4 Cup Unsalted Butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 8-9 Cold Apples
  • Sticks
  • Candy Thermometer
  • Large Sauce Pan

  • Silicone Baking Sheet

Step 1: Mixing Caramel Ingredients

Use a medium to large sauce pan as this bubbles up a lot! (mine is like 8 cups I think)

Dump the butter and brown sugar into the pan.

Add the corn syrup.

I always use corn syrup without any high fructose corn syrup.

Then add the heavy whipping cream to the pan and then add the salt.

Use a whisk to stir it all up.

Place it on the heating element on the stove top set to MEDIUM.

Do not change the heat during this process, keep it at medium the entire time.

Step 2: Caramel Time

If you have a candy thermometer that's ideal!

Lol, I used my meat thermometer and just duct taped it to the sauce pan.

Let the mixture bubble until it reaches 240*F

  • Don't stir it.
  • Don't change the heat.
  • Don't get scared...it takes a long time, but it needs to reach 240*F.
  • It takes about 20-30 minutes of bubbling and popping all over the stove top.

Step 3: Prep the Apples

While the mixture is bubbling away, prepare the apples.

Wash the wax off the apples.

Clean the sticks--mine are from the yard.

Then stick the sticks into the apples and place them on the silicone mat on a baking sheet.

This caramel will stick to everything...so the silicone mat is the way to go.

Step 4: Finish off Caramel

When the caramel gets to 240*, remove it from the heat.

The 240* temperature puts it at the higher end of SOFT BALL stage...right before firm ball.

Now add the vanilla to the caramel and stir in gently with a spoon, don't over stir.

If you stir too much it will whip bubbles into the caramel.

Step 5: Dipping Apples in Caramel

Wait for about 10 minutes for the caramel to cool off a bit.

If it is too hot, it will slip right off the apple...if it's too cold, it's also a problem.

Hold the stick of the apple and press it into the pan, tipping it as needed, so it coats up to the top edge of the apple.

Then immediately add sprinkles and set it on the silicone baking sheet to cool.

Then eat off the stick or cut up into pieces and enjoy!

Covers about 8-9 apples!

Fallout Fandom Recipes Cookbook: Video Game Food

My fellow Vault Dwellers, the Fallout Universe is full of unique and questionable foods!

Recreating fictional food from Fallout in a real-life cooking experience is a flavorful fusion of gaming geekery and gastronomy.

In the immersive world of Fallout, iconic dishes like squirrel on a stick and West Virginia pepperoni rolls satisfy the taste buds and hunger meter, becoming virtual symbols of post-apocalyptic sustenance.

Turning pixels to plates, this culinary cookbook offers the fandom an opportunity to transform gaming nostalgia into tangible, delectable creations.

Turning pixels to plates, this culinary cookbook offers the fandom an opportunity to transform gaming nostalgia into tangible, delectable creations. Some of these are original recipes and not-so exotic ingredients for fandom foodies. Playing video games is something my entire family has in common, so cooking some of these foods together was a fun way to take a digital singular experience and make it a authentic real life experience.
