I love making cake toppers!

They are super easy to make and can be cleaned off and reused.

Or they can just be a one and done celebration decoration and get mulched up in the compost.

I picked bright, shiny paper to make this layered happy birthday cake topper, but any cardstock will work!

Step 3: Assemble Cake Topper

Now simply use a hot glue gun to glue the layers of paper together.

I use hot glue because it is thick and adds a dimensional effect to the stepping up of paper pieces.

I love the thick and sturdy look of this cake topper.

You could use a thin glue too, just not something with too much water, or the papers will warp.

Finish off the cake topper by hot gluing the wooden skewer on the backside of the paper stack.

You could use a wooden dowel, a paper straw or even just a couple of toothpicks.

Cover the messy hot glued skewer with a paper backing.

You could revers the final offset shape and have it cut a shiny piece of cardstock or just cover it with regular paper, because no one is going to see it...like mine.
