Paint Matching Exterior Doors of Home with Folk Art Paint + GIVEAWAY

Painting the exterior door to your home is a great way to add curb appeal and make your house feel fresh. Paint all the exterior doors to match using Folk Art Outdoor paint. It's a simple update that does not require many supplies or time. Spend a couple hours improving the exterior of your home by painting the doors to match.

I sourced some local doors in the neighborhood to paint! It's something fun I can do to help my neighbors and then I'm not constantly repainting my doors. Check out this amazing door transformation I did last Summer.

So here's the current house pictured below, a reddish brick with cream trim. The front door is forest green and the side door is white. The shutters are black. Both doors are chipped paint and need a face lift.

Here's the before and after! The blue we picked is stunning! It's a fresh and welcome change from the green. Of course, blue is my favorite color ever...plus it's Pantone's color of 2020, so it's the perfect pick!

Begin by washing down the doors and remove any nails and decorations on the door.

The color the home owner and I picket is called Cerulean Blue by Folk Art Outdoor. The outdoor paint is a gloss finish and very thick paint. It comes in 2 ounce bottles and we used 6 of these for the 2 doors, with a little to spare for touch-ups.

Use painters tape to protect the edges of the door and around any windows, as well as the door knob and dead bolt. Place cardboard on the ground, under the door and on the porch.

Then begin by painting a light layer of paint on the door. This door did not need primer because it was already a painted surface.

Just remember that the first coat of paint always looks awful. Wait 2-4 hours (depending on weather and temperature) and then paint the door again.

Finally, paint the door a third time if necessary...I just did final last touch ups in places. Then remove the painters tape and let the door dry completely.

Repeat the same process for other exterior doors. It's wonderful to have the outside doors match!

Begin by taping off the edges and putting cardboard under the door. Then paint the first layer of paint on the door.

Again, tell yourself that the first coat of paint always looks horrible. Let it dry and then paint a second coat of paint on the door. This door has such a large window that it did not take nearly the amount of paint as the front door.

Finish it off with touch ups if needed and remove the painters tape and let the door dry completely.

To a fabulous door that pops with color! I love how the blue compliments the red brick. They work perfectly together.

That's it! 

It just takes a day to update the look of your house with some paint!
