Bean Bag Toss Chalkboard Upcycle DIY

Can you believe it's back-to-school time!? I feel like the Summer went so fast!

There's still time to play outside!

Perfect for school recess play, a carnival, holidays, party or hours of outside play time!

Let the kids play in the yard with a little target practice...or decorate the chalkboard for a specific party or carnival theme. I love that it can erase and color on for every occasion.

I love carnival games but cannot justify the price of playing them. I love to create my own versions that I can play again and again without running up a huge tab.

This is a fun way to set up a little neighborhood carnival or have it out at an Easter Egg Hunt, Trunk or Treat or for a back-to-school carnival at the park.

Maybe even offer some prizes, or just have it set up for fun.

Supplies Needed for Chalkboard Bean Bag Toss:

Old chalkboard rescued from the dumpster

Step 1: Acquire Chalkboard

This chalkboard was on its way to the dumpster and I rescued it. I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it.

Step 2: Cut Circles

I just drew circles on it where I wanted to cut the holes. Use a plate, bowl or compass to make a perfect circle...or just eyeball it like me.

Then I used a jigsaw to cut out 3 six inch holes. Just pilot a hole with a drill bit and then slip the jigsaw inside and cut around the circle outline.

Make as many holes as you like!

Okay, actually I asked my son to go out to the garage and cut the circles for me...and make a hinging leg so it stands up.

I love that my kids are bold enough to just go and do.

Step 3: Add Hinge Stand

Then rummage through the garage and find an old 1x2 and a metal hinge to make a leg for it to stand.

This is nice because it also collapses for easy storage.

It's not super fancy, but it works just fine for this fun outdoor game.

Then erase the chalkboard and go to work drawing all kinds of things on it. Make targets, add point values for each hole, or decorate it for the holiday or party theme.

This would make a great station for a school party too.

Here's some holiday decoration ideas:

  • Pumpkins for a Halloween Party
  • Easter Bunny and Eggs for Easter
  • Hearts for Valentines
  • Flowers for Spring
  • Sunshine for Summer
  • Leaves for Autumn
  • Presents and ornaments for Christmas
