SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR PUFFY PAINT DIY: affiliate links Mod Podge (I got a 2 oz bottle at the dollar store) Shaving Cream (again, at the dollar store) Acrylic Craft Paint (in about 5 different colors) Disposable Cups Stirring Sticks Piping Bags or Plastic Squeeze Bottles or Zip-close Plastic Bags Wood Rounds or Paper or other blank surface

Step 1: Mixing

Begin by mixing one part Mod Podge with one part shaving cream, this does not need to be exact as there are different recipes and yield great results to make puff paint.

You can use white glue as well instead of the Mod Podge, and just begin with a half full cup of glue.

The white puffy paint will feel thick and have a fun texture.

I was surprised that the shaving cream doesn't just melt, it stays fluffy and makes this amazing thick paint, that becomes dimensional paint.

Step 2: Coloring the Puff Paint

Now separate the white paint into multiple cups with a squeeze of acrylic craft paint for vivid and bright colors.

Food coloring can be used instead, but I love the addition of the acrylic paint.

Step 3: Painting Time

Now transfer the mixed paint into piping bags, plastic squeeze bottles, zip-close bags or just use paint brushes and paint straight from the mixed cups.

I love the piping bags because they give more control and are a fun way to paint with this fun texture paint.

Just cut a small hole in the end and squeeze the paint out onto the wood blank or on a piece of paper.

I noticed that some of my paint colors were a little bit different in consistency, and next time I would mix them in a small bowl instead of a cup to really mix up the elements.

The amount of paint I mixed up was enough for me to do three small projects with my own designs.

If you are working with younger toddlers, this is probably all they need as well.

If you are working with children, having them paint onto paper plates is a great way to utilize an inexpensive surface for the whole process art.

Squirt bottles could give added accuracy for older kids and teens that want to give it a try.

This simple craft is really a fun activity for all ages!

STORING LEFT OVER PUFF PAINT:

If you have leftover paint, you can store it in an air tight container, but I'm not sure how long it would last, I would try to use it the next day or at least in a couple days.

I used all my paint up in one sitting, so there was no leftovers to concern me.

There are different recipes for DIY puffy paint, but found that this easy recipe was perfect.

Using 2 ounces of Mod Podge and about 2-3 ounces of shaving cream.

Step 4: Drying

Set the puffy paint designs aside to dry for about 24 hours.

Then the puffy paint is firm, but still puffy and fluffy!

The texture is smooth and can be squished if you have a little heavy handed friend that just can't resist.

It's a super fun activity with simple ingredients and definitely worth the effort to get creative on a Summer day!
