When I was little the Easter bunny would come and hide our brightly colored plastic eggs. He did it very differently than everyone else I knew though, I knew it was because my dad was so smart...like the Easter bunny was trying to impress my dad. Haha.

Anyway, there was 5 of us kids. We each had a different colored egg. Mine was always blue. The youngest child's egg was hidden in the easiest spot to find. In the center of the floor, on the table, etc. Then the next child's egg was hidden in the general vicinity of the first egg. And so on, until my older brother, who's egg was always the hardest to find.

Here's an example I remember. Child #5, egg on the center of the kitchen floor. Child #4, egg on the floor tucked under the edge of the cabinet edge. Child #3, egg inside the cupboard nearest to the floor. Child #2 (that's me), on the shelf above hidden behind the plastic containers. Child #5, Hidden inside the big tupperware container holding flour.

We had about 6-8 eggs each and had to work together to find them all, otherwise the older kids eggs would be nearly impossible to find. It was a fun tradition.

Supplies Needed for Napkin Mod Podge Eggs DIY:

Supplies needed from Oriental Trading for the perfect grown up version of painting eggs.

Begin by opening up the napkin and removing the 2 ply's of napkin that are white. Leaving just the floral print behind.

Pulling the 2 ply white napkins away from the patterned napkin.

Then cut up the napkin into little one inch pieces. For 3 eggs I needed 2 napkins.

Then coat the DIY cardboard eggs with Mod Podge. As it dries slightly it will become tacky.

Paint Mod Podge on cardboard DIY Easter Egg before placing napkin pieces on it.

Use the paintbrush to pick up a napkin as it will be sticky as well. Then place it on the egg and paint the Mod Podge over the top of the napkin.

Place small pieces of napkins on the egg painted with Mod Podge

Continue adding napkins to the egg so that the entire egg is covered. Overlapping and layers are just fine. Let the napkins go just to the edge of the egg, this will keep the egg able to snap together withe the top.

Then set the egg halves aside and let them dry completely. The Mod Podge adds some strength to the eggs.

Then fill the eggs with small treats, toys or love notes. They are adorable for home decor in this wire basket and crinkled paper. I love having elements that don't necessarily belong to a certain holiday...this wire basket is awesome for so many functions.

Make a bunch of eggs, the DIY eggs come in a package of 12, hide them around the house and let the kids find them over and over.

When I had little kids, they loved egg hunts. They didn't even care if the eggs were empty. I would give one child a basket of 10 or so eggs and tell them to go hide them in one particular room of the house.

Then the other kids would take the basket and go find all 10 eggs. This would pass back and forth for hours. I love how happily they played egg hunt together!
