I am absolutely allergic to real flowers, but luckily I’ve found my substitute in crafting gorgeous paper flowers.
Making Cricut paper flowers is one of my favorite things to do in my craft room—they’re long-lasting, customizable, and totally sneeze-free.
Whether you’re decorating for baby showers, Valentine’s Day, or creating spring decor, this tutorial will walk you through everything you need to know.
These beautiful Cricut flowers range from small flowers to giant paper flowers, and once you make one, you’ll want a whole bunch of flowers in every color!
Supplies Needed for 3D Rolled Paper Flowers with Cricut:
- Cricut machine (this works with the Cricut Maker 4, Cricut Explore Air 4, or even a Cricut Joy or Xtra for smaller flowers--or for the largest flowers, use the Cricut Venture)
- Cricut Design Space file or cut file from Creative Fabrica
- Cardstock paper or card stock (Medium weight cardstock is my go-to)
- Quilling tool (optional, I just start with a paintbrush, then use my hands)
- Glue gun + glue sticks
- Green cardstock for green leaves
- Wooden dowels for stems
I'm not sure of original source of this ultimate guide, Cricut file flowers with ID Number and finished shape, but it's a super handy guide to see what the petal shapes are and how the spiral flower turns out.
Step 1: Choose Your Flower Design
Open your Cricut Design Space file and browse flower templates or paper flower designs. Look for spiral shapes—these are the key to a classic rolled flower like Cricut roses or a timeless paper rose.
Resize your flowers to create different sizes:
- Large paper flowers or a large flower for wall art
- Smaller flowers for cards or bouquets
- Use the largest size setting for giant paper flowers
Creative Fabrica has so many svg files for rolled flowers:
Creative Fabrica is awesome, so many files for SVG's, bundles, laser cut files, fonts and much more for a very low price.
Step 2: Cutting the Flowers
Load your chosen type of paper onto the mat.
- Try solid core, crepe paper, or experiment with a different kind of paper
Select the correct material setting (cardstock paper or crepe paper).
Cut the design—these are individual cut petals connected in a spiral.
This is the best part—watching your Cricut machine do all the hard work!
When peeling the flower spirals off the mat, turn the mat upside down and remove them carefully.
Step 3: Rolling the Flower Step-by-step tutorial
Part 1: Start Rolling
Begin at the outside edge piece of the spiral and we will finish up in the middle of the spiral.
You can insert the edge of the paper into the small slit your quilling tool and start rolling tightly or just use your fingers.
This becomes the flower center.
Add a little drop of hot glue after a couple revolutions of rolling to keep it from unraveling...but be cautious not to use too much that it squeezes out and you burn your fingers.
Part 2: Shape the Petals
As you roll the flower larger and larger, you can experiment with:
- Loose pressure for larger petals
- Let the smaller petals stay tighter
- Gently curl the petal shapes outward with your fingers
After a couple wraps around the flower, put another dab of hot glue to hold the flower in place and keep it from unrolling.
Part 3: Secure the Flower
When you reach the bottom of the flower, add a dab of hot glue to the circle base and press the flower down into the glue.
Hold for a few seconds and let it set.
Step 4: Finishing Touches
- Add extra petals if you want fuller blooms
- Glue on green leaves
- Glue them to wooden dowels for full bouquet stems
- Mix different colors and larger petals with medium petals for a realistic look
- Add paint to the edge of the flower petal for contrast
- Cut petals from crepe paper for extra texture
