Acrylic Paint Pour Skin Pendant Necklace with Resin.

Mixing and pouring out acrylic paint on a canvas to make stunning works of art is so fun.  Paint pours are such a great way to make big wall art for home decor.  Place a plastic tablecloth or garbage bag on your work surface, raise the canvas off the table with cups or soup cans...then pour the paint all over the canvas and let it run off the sides.

Once the paint dries the canvas is gorgeous...and the residue of the paint drips are equally impressive!  Instead of tossing them in the trash, upcycle them into stunning jewelry!

Here's some posts on Acrylic Paint pouring, it's a great craft, even for kids--no age discrimination!  Paint pouring is super popular and easy to do.  Just mix paint with a pouring medium like flotrol and then pour all the colors of paint in one cup.

Pour out all over canvas or tray and let the paint dry as slowly as possible for the best results.  After the paint dries it will loose its glossy finish, but is easy to restore with some resin or varnish.  For more details, check out these paint pouring posts:

Step 1: Dry Paint

Start by examining the paint skin remnant.  Find the spots that speak the most to you.   Sometimes when the colors blend they can look muddy.  Find parts that have interesting patterns and details.  Can you see the part I picked for my pendant?  This paint skin could make several necklaces--or magnets too!

Step 2: Bezel Pattern

Cut a small piece of paper to fit inside the bezel to make a simple pattern.

 Step 3: Cut the Paint

Then use the paper as a stencil for cutting the paint skin with scissors to fit inside the bezel perfectly.

Step 4: Glue

Next spread some E6000 on the inside of the bezel and press the paint skin on it firmly.

Let the E6000 dry for a couple hours.  This makes a very sturdy necklace and could be worn as is...but it's just not shiny and smooth enough yet.

Step 5: Resin

Next mix up some jewelry resin.  Mix up about a 1/4 ounce of each bottle and stir according to the package directions.

Even with a small amount of resin it's critical to mix up the resin in the 2 phase process.

After mixing pour the resin out on top of the paint in the bezel.

Use a dowel, toothpick or old paintbrush (ready to toss) to push the resin into the edges of the bezel.

Use a straw and blow through it gently near the resin to pop any bubbles that have formed.

Step 6: Cure

Set the bezel on some stirring sticks so it is resting level on the table.  Then let it set overnight to cure the resin completely.

Finally string a chain through the pendant bezel and wear the stunning work of art!  It's ready to wear out or give as a wonderful handmade gift.
