HIGH END CRAFTING DUPE:

This project has a soft, rustic feel that works beautifully on a mantel, shelf, wine cork Christmas tree, or even as a laid-back Christmas garland.

Best of all, it’s simple, relaxing, and easy to customize for the length of garland you want.

This is one of those cork crafts that looks high-end but comes together with basic supplies and a little creative time.

Let's get started!

Supplies Needed for Wine Cork Bead Garland: affiliate links Wine corks Wood beads (choose a size bead that complements your corks) Crochet thread (doubled up for strength) Large needle Drill bit and drill Pair of pliers Jute twine or crochet thread for tassels Piece of tape Scissors Small board or piece of cardboard (about 6 inches wide)

Step 1: Drill the Wine Corks

To make stringing easy, start by drilling a hole straight through the length of each cork.

Use a drill bit slightly larger than your doubled crochet thread.

Holding the cork steady with a pair of pliers helps keep your fingers safe and the hole straight.

This step is key—it turns the corks into easy-to-thread beads and opens up so many different ways to use wine corks in future projects.

Step 2: Prepare Your Thread and Needle

Cut a long piece of crochet thread, doubling it up for extra durability.

Secure one end with a small piece of tape and thread it through a large needle.

This makes stringing the corks and wood beads much easier, especially once you start building the pattern.

Step 3: String the Garland

Now for the fun part! I used a simple repeating pattern:

  • 3 wooden beads (small, bigger, small)
  • 1 wine cork
  • Repeat

I used 8 corks on this garland and it turned out the perfect length for home decor or curtain tie backs.

Repeat this sequence until you reach your desired length of garland.

This pattern gives the finished wood bead garland a balanced look and keeps the corks from feeling too bulky.

Leave a little extra thread at each end of the garland so you’ll have room to attach the tassels later.

You could make a really long garland and wrap it around the Christmas tree next year.

It's like a book tracker...but it could be your wine tracker, lol.

I was gifted a bunch of corks for crafting and it's been a fun medium.

Step 4: Make the Tassels

To create the tassels, wrap jute twine or the same crochet thread around a 6-inch board about 50 times.

Carefully slide it off, then tie another piece of twine tightly around the top—this forms the top of the tassel.

Cut the loops at the bottom, then gently brush the strands a few times to soften them.

Trim as needed until the tassel looks full and even.

Repeat for the second tassel.

Step 5: Attach the Tassels

Tie each tassel securely onto the end of the twine at both ends of the garland.

Adjust the knots so everything hangs evenly, then trim any excess thread for a clean finish.

TASSELS ARE OPTIONAL:

The tassel is not necessary, but makes a fun and high end addition to the garland.

If it's a decor piece on the coffee table, definitely finish it off with the tasseled ends.

If you are using it to wrap a tree, the ends won't stand out, so you can just tie off the garland around a bead and call it done.

I like to trim the ends of my tassels a bit uneven, almost in a point.

This makes it easy to keep it simple and rustic...if you try to cut it exactly straight it will never be perfect enough.

Just thin out the ends and call it good!

Then I like to use a rat tail brush to brush out the tassels a bit.

Again, not necessary.

Styling Your DIY Wine Cork Garland

This garland turned out so cute and versatile.

It works perfectly as subtle holiday decor, draped on a mantel, wrapped around a wine cork Christmas tree, tie backs for curtains, or layered with greenery as a relaxed Christmas garland.

You can also leave it up year-round for neutral home decor—the corks and beads add just the right amount of texture.
