Fresh Paint by Ali Kay Studio is an online painting membership program that I have been part of for the last year.

I joined Fresh Paint's VIP membership after completing Paint Week 2024 and now it's time for Paint Week 2025.

WHAT IS FRESH PAINT?

Fresh Paint is an online membership portal with nearly 200 vibrant and colorful acrylic painting lessons and lots of technical/technique lessons as well.
Each lesson is accompanied with templates, reference photos and color charts.

Ali has a list of recommended paints, supplies and tools to use when painting, but you can start with whatever you already have.

The membership program is either paying month to month (Fresh Paint) or paying for one full year all at once (Fresh Paint VIP).

The VIP program offering 12 new seasonal lessons (as well as the library to all the past VIP lessons) and open studio hours each month to ask questions and watch Ali paint live.

If you can possibly swing it, pay for the VIP membership.

It saves you money in the long run and gives you many more lessons!

In one year of Fresh Paint, I completed over 100 paintings!

WHAT IS PAINT WEEK?

Paint week is something every Fresh Painter looks forward to each Fall--I joined last year's paint week and absolutely fell in love with this colorful and quick painting style!

Paint week is only $10.

It gives you access to a week of live painting tutorials from Ali.

Monday Ali will help you know what materials are needed, how to prep your materials, including the templates to transfer on your canvas or boards, and introduce you to Fresh Paint and all it has to offer.

Tuesday is a painting class! Ali will walk you through painting an ENTIRE Black Eyed Susan painting from start to finish! (Best part is that you can watch the lesson again after the live stream and catch up if you fall behind.)

Wednesday is a technical lesson, usually about mixing colors and making the most out of your supplies.

Thursday and Friday are painting classes, this Pumpkin Stack painting is a little more involved than the first one and takes 2 days (2 hours) to complete.

WHEN IS PAINT WEEK 2025?

Paint week (part of Fresh Paint) is Sept. 29th – Oct. 3rd 2025

Last year, 2024, paint week captivated me with this beautiful daisy!

I was so eager to learn Ali's techniques!

But let me tell you a secret.

I had NO intentions of joining Fresh Paint.

My plan was to do paint week, learn everything I could about the technique and style and then go it alone.

On the last day of Paint Week, Ali mentioned that all sign ups that day would go directly to charity, it was Building Hope for Haiti, and I burst into tears.

I knew I should sign up, my husband agreed.

I swung for the full year, VIP membership and have never looked back!

I also begun my Fresh Paint journey using craft paint and rectangle canvas board panels.

I could tell immediately that my paint was not nearly the vibrancy of the "good Golden Paints".

I decided to dive in head first and buy a big order of the good paint, I got 8 ounce bottles of paint and they lasted a GOOD, long time. I needed to buy another bottle of Titanium White, but all the other colors have lasted through 100 paintings so far. (8,490 square inches)

I repeated the daisy lesson, and look at the beautiful colors!

Oh ya, I love painting a mini 1x1 along with my bigger painting!

Golden Fluid Acrylics (these 9 colors are pricy but make all the difference...and you only need these 9 colors)

Gesso (One Gallon or 16 ounces)
Wood Cradled Panels (12x12, 11x14, 8x10, 8x8, 6x6 and 4x4)
Paint Brushes (This is a pack of 60 brushes, this is an investment, but these large brushes are fabulous, and easy to replace when they start to split)
Easel (People love H-Frames, but I'm happy with my travel easel)
Plastic Palettes

Pattern or Template (can be taken from a photograph)
Acrylic Paint Marker in Lilac (I'm using Tooli-Art but Posca will let you buy it individually)

I prefer to paint on birch wood panels and the lessons are typically 8x8 at the smallest.

You can gesso watercolor paper and paint on that too!

I've done it that way for a few lessons and it's so great for storing paintings, practice and saving money.

Ali Kay Studio has a library of past lessons to paint and enjoy!

Nearly 200 lessons gives a wide variety of landscapes, flowers, bouquets, still life's, animals, bugs, portraits, figures and more!

If you sign up for VIP membership, you get access to seasonal paintings as well, Spring, Fall and Holiday--including the super popular Santa face painting!

The BIGGEST take away though, is learning the process through repetition and practice so you can jump in to your own SOLO pieces.

I love being able to paint anything I want!

WHAT IS FRESH PAINT LIVE?

Last April (2025) Ali Kay hosted Fresh Paint Live, a conference held in Chattanooga, Tennessee that brought Fresh Painters from all over the world together for live guest speakers, presentations, painting together and more!

I had just joined Fresh Paint and did not opt to go to Fresh Paint live, but it looked amazing!

I'm definitely on board for the next one!
