Crystal Orb Scepter Costume Prop DIY

Halloween is my favorite holiday, but mostly I love the costumes. I think the difference between a great and a so-so costume is the accessories and props. A great prop can make a costume!

Mixing Cups, Stirring Sticks, Disposable Gloves
Heat Gun or Mini Torch
Walking Stick
Leather Scraps
E6000 Glue

Begin by mixing the resin according to the package directions, in the 2 phase mixing process.

Then full the mold with resin.

Use the heat gun to pop any of the bubbles that have formed.

Let the resin cure about 24-48 hours. Then pop the crystal ball out of the silicone mold.

Now find a wonderful walking stick.

Then cut a bunch of strips of leather.

My whip cracking and braiding son did a 4-plait braid with the leather strips around the top of the walking stick. But you can tie them or twist them in place too.

It's so cool how natural and cool these strips of leather look...really lending well to a medieval day costume.

Once it's braided to your satisfaction, let's adhere the ball to the top.

You will need the E6000 glue and some painters tape. The silicone mold even filled with resin, still leaves a flat surface of the ball. This is where you will glue it right to the top of the walking stick.

Put a sizable amount of E6000 glue on the crystal ball and stick it to the stick. Then use painters tape to hold the ball in place while the glue dries. It needs at least 4 hours...but overnight to be safe.

Remove the tape and then wrap some extra leather around the top to help the transition from crystal ball to stick. Tie it off with a square knot and leave some cord tassels.

It's also a really fun way to take crystal ball photographs--have you seen those? It flips the image upside down, but they are really cool.
